Cancer sucks. Whether you are a healthy 71 year old with a newly diagnosed brain tumor, a 37 year old with pancreatic cancer, a 16 year old with a bone tumor, or a 2 year old with leukemia,... not to mention breast cancer, adenomas, lymphomas, granulomas, and skin cancers, and on and on. Cancer sucks!!
Chances are that anyone you talk to has a loved one or friend touched by this disease. There are different theories and some identified causes of different types of cancer, but in many cases the causes are unknown. There are many conflicting ideas on what steps to take to prevent this disease but many reputable researches point to prevention by eating a healthy high fiber diet, regular use of sunscreen, moderate exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, limiting exposure to known substances that cause cancer,... the list goes on and on. Then you might find all kinds of conflicting information from "experts" online; eat certain foods, avoid certain foods, doing this, don't do that,... Argh! It can become very confusing and frustrating trying to sort through so much information. You need to use some common sense and not fall for every new fad. Do your homework and look at the research for yourself.
When it comes to actually treating any type of cancer, the same approach should be taken. Read, learn, ask questions, seek out the experts and look at all the pros and cons, benefits and side effects, ask more questions. Look at traditional treatments and experimental treatments, traditional medicine treatments and natural approach treatments. Find a health professional who will actually listen to you and value your input in choosing a course of action that you are comfortable with.
I always try to keep an open mind to more natural approaches to treating illnesses, and when it comes to issues of life and death, there is a certain time constraint and a sense of urgency, so I find that some people are open to trying new approaches and using what I like to call "Complementary Therapies". Some people call them Alternative Therapies, but that might give the impression that there is a choice to be made between one way of doing things and another. Complementary, as in you can do this AND that, inclusive, at the same time to get the most benefit. So I do not discourage anybody from following the traditional approach to cancer treatment whether that is surgery, invasive tests, radiation therapy, chemotherapy,... but I encourage them to also look into other more gentle approaches. Those range from a change in nutrition, dietary supplements, relaxation techniques, guided imagery, prayer, acupuncture, massage, use of herbs and oils,...
All of these complementary approaches have their benefits and a range of effectiveness that varies from person to person. Their effectiveness can be subjective or objective, and their cost can vary from free to prohibitively expensive. I like to think that I am a mostly rationally thinking person, so I love to see well done research and evaluate things on my own and form my own opinion on things. That being said I do realize that everything is not known, and not everything can be measured, quantified and boxed up in neat logical package.
I have been reading, and learning and asking questions about essential oils for a while now. I have been applying what I learn to myself and those within my reach who are open to trying something different. I come in contact with people who are in pain, or suffering every day. Some have cancer, so I have looked into essential oils that might be beneficial for their particular conditions. Using plants and plant oils is not a new fad, it's as old as humanity itself, with documented uses in the Egyptian and Greek cultures. Most modern pharmaceuticals are derived from plants through chemistry.
Frankincense has been studied extensively and has been found to have pain relief and anti-inflamatory properties, improve anti-oxidant status, anti cancer properties, anti-tumor properties, improvement of osteoarthritis, reduces the intensity and frequency of headaches in patients with Cluster Headaches, treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and asthma, peritumoral brain oedema, antimicrobial properties,...
