My version of "Good Girl Moonshine"

I came across several recipes for a "Good Girl Moonshine".  Sounded intriguing. I've never tasted moonshine and I'm not planning to anytime soon, I rather keep my wits about me and not feel like my insides are on fire. Plus I would like to be able to drink it all day long...

The original recipe comes from this book http://www.trimhealthymama.com/.  They are two lovely sisters with a passion for healthy mothering.  I've read their Mama's newsletter for years http://aboverubies.org/en/.

So, the basic ingredients seem pretty benign and even healthy.  Water, raw apple cider vinegar, ginger, some sweetener... OK, I like where this is going,..  there are many variations floating out there so I decided to try my own.

I try to take the essential oils that help with allergies every day.  I basically put 2 drops of each Peppermint, Lemon and Lavender essential oils in about 1 ounce of water or lemonade and swish that around my mouth a few times and then swallow it.  I try to do this a couple of times a day, or when my nose reminds me that I'm getting stuffy ;)
So, I thought, why not incorporate that into the "moonshine".  I don't have any fresh ginder or Ginger essential oil (yet) so I used the organic ground ginger I had in my pantry.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pint mason jar
  • 1 metal spoon
  • 1 1/2 Cups water
  • 1/2 to 1 TBSP organic apple cider vinegar (to taste)
  • 1 TBSP organic local honey (more or less to taste)
  • 2 drops lavender essential oil
  • 2 drops lemon essential oil
  • 2 drops peppermint essential oil
  • ice

Directions:
Dump it all in the mason jar, mix it up. add ice, enjoy!

It's got a tingle to it, and a little bite and then a coolness to your lips and throat.

**Oooh, this would be really good as a slushy!  Next batch, I am sticking in the blender!
Doesn't this look like something
refreshing to drink on a hot day??
Peppermint is cooling and good for your digestive system, Ginger is a known anti inflammatory food,  Apple cider vinegar has many health benefits  including anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial due to its high levels of malic acid. It also  It lowers bad cholesterol and regulate blood pressure. It is a powerful detox tool and improves bowel function and it clarifies the skin,... Local organic honey can help desensitize you against pollen and weed allergies.

You should only use essential oils that are are guaranteed to be 100% pure and natural and free of synthetic compounds or contaminates. That are subjected to rigorous mass spectrometry and gas chromatography testing to ensure extract composition and activity.
